I am often inspired by dancers.
A bulk of this inspiration comes from the pure awe I am in when watching dancers.
Our wide eyes follow a dancer across a plain effortlessly, our minds try to make sense of the movement, and our hearts witness something so full of feeling it can’t help but want to make something of its own.
For me, this inspiration also comes from the unique challenge that dance photography poses when approached compositionally. In dance, movement is constant, shapes are organic, and it can never quite be replicated. It is what it is — and oh, it is beautiful and powerful.
A huge thanks to Anna — a dancer, a poet, and a teacher — who danced on this sunny day atop a parking ramp. And thank you to Erik, for telling me which parking ramp would have the best view of the sky.
